Foot protection at work for medics – comfort that translates into quality of care

Certainly, many doctors will admit that working in the medical profession is not just about performing duties at a desk, but sometimes requires considerable physical exertion.

Long hours on their feet, often a fast pace, frequent position changes and constant movement around the ward are the daily routine of many doctors, nurses and technicians. All this naturally makes the feet one of the most stressed parts of the body.

Even in good physical condition, fatigue takes its toll on the feet. Swelling, a feeling of heaviness, sometimes even pain appear. This should not be taken lightly, but should be reacted to right away. Neglected feet can lead to circulation problems, varicose veins, joint strain changes and even spinal ailments.

It is not enough to rest once in a while, but to take regular care of the condition of the feet. More care should be given to them. So should the patients, because comfort begins with a solid foundation.

How to take care of the feet in the work of a medic? We provide some tips, focusing primarily on regular, healthy habits.

The right footwear is key – an investment in mobility and posture

The first and certainly undeniable step to protecting feet in the work of a medical professional is to choose the right footwear. Well-chosen medical shoes can significantly relieve pressure on the spine and joints, and thus reduce the risk of overload.

They should not be casual tennis shoes or flip-flops. Therefore: which ones? Let’s start by listing the criterion for ideal medical footwear, which will make your search significantly easier.

Well-suited medical shoes have:

  • Stable support for the arch of the foot;
  • An anti-slip sole that enhances safety in medical environments;
  • Lightweight and flexible, making the foot work in a natural way;
  • Breathable material to avoid overheating and moisture.

The medical apparel industry offers a variety of models designed for healthcare work. And this is where Med&Beauty’s novelty, the first medical flip-flops from our brand, SooLite, comes in.

The flip-flops are lightweight and ergonomic. They are made of special EVA foam, resistant to creases and wrinkles. The property of the foam is also incredible flexibility, the flip-flops work together with the movement of the foot. At the same time, they are non-slip, sturdy and provide cushioning. They also have adjustable straps.

Another issue that is of secondary importance in the medical industry, but certainly welcome: design. Our flip-flops are in line with current trends, and come in unique colors, chosen to match the many colors of scrubs and other medical apparel.

We are pleased that our first medical shoes have been so warmly received and trust that they will serve many of our customers.

Care and hygiene – a daily ritual for healthy feet

Even the best-fitting shoes are not enough if we do not take care of our daily care. After a long tour of duty, take a few minutes to give your feet a break.

What should be done? For starters, just wash and dry them thoroughly, especially in the space between the toes. This way helps to maintain hygiene, protect against infections, but also gives the impression of “removing” the feeling of fatigue from the legs.

The next step is to moisturize. In particular, we recommend urea creams, which keep the skin soft and supple to prevent cracking, keratosis. In the future, they could realistically impede movement in the ward.

And one important, though not so obvious to everyone: socks. Necessarily such made of natural, breathable materials – cotton, bamboo with a blend of moisture-wicking fibers.

People who are prone to swelling may consider wearing compression socks, as they improve circulation and reduce the feeling of heaviness in the legs.

Small breaks, big relief – how to relieve your feet during a long tour of duty?

Even if it seems difficult, during a busy work day it is worth at least stopping for a moment and letting your legs breathe.

Short 5-minute breaks are enough, and they can really make a difference.

During the break, it is best to do simple exercises: circling the feet, bending the toes, rolling the foot on a ball or grasping objects. A few minutes, and one can stimulate circulation and feel a pleasant relaxation of muscles.

After a standoff, it works well to elevate the legs for a few minutes – lean against a pillow back, the back of the bed, the wall. Gravity will do its job, that is, reduce swelling.

Alternating hot and cold showers or massaging with a cooling menthol gel is also a great way to recover.

Importantly, these habits do not take a lot of time, can be performed in a variety of conditions, and for that they always bring the desired relief.

And finally: it is worth realizing that taking care of the feet is a necessity, part of daily professional prevention. Leg fatigue significantly affects the well-being of doctors, nurses and other specialists, which also affects the quality of medical care. A good doctor is one who can take care of himself in order to be able to help others.
